Meatout 2007 to Focus On Global Warming

In March, animal, consumer, and environment protection activists in a thousand communities in all 50 states and two dozen other countries will welcome spring with educational events showing the link between meat/dairy production and global warming. They will ask visitors to "kick the meat habit on March 20th (first day of spring) and to explore an environment-friendly diet of vegetables, fruits, and grains."

The events will range from elaborate Lifestivals and a Congressional Reception to public dinners, cooking demos, exhibits, and simple information tables. Hundreds of billboards, bus display cards, and letters to the editor will carry the Meatout message to millions. A number of governors and mayors will issue special proclamations.

The occasion for all this activity is the 23rd annual observance of the Great American Meatout, the world’s largest annual grassroots diet education campaign. And the best opportunity to prevent the suffering and death of millions of cows, pigs, and other innocent, sentient animals raised for food.

Please take a look at the 2006 photo gallery, review the detailed Action Center page, then register your event, even if your plans are only tentative.

AR2007 National Conference to Be Held In L.A.

The Animal Rights 2007 National Conference will be held in Los Angeles in July. We expect 90 presenters from 60 groups, 120 sessions, 100 exhibits, and 800 participants. The precise dates and location will be announced by mid-January, launching a brief period of half-price registration discounts.

A special plenary session and several workshops will address the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. More traditional features will include workshops, rap sessions, campaign reports, videos, exhibits, Newcomer Orientation, Job Clearinghouse, Networking Receptions, musical entertainment, and the Awards Banquet. A number of post-conference activities are planned.

Please visit the AR2006 Mementos, including photo gallery, schedule, and testimonials, and spread the word about this momentous event.

FARM Launches Monthly Giving Program

Each year, my staff and I do our utmost to end the terrible tragedy of animal agriculture by mounting eight major programs to promote a vegan diet. Recently, we have launched two new campaigns: Equal Justice Alliance and  Stop Global Warming.

We operate with an incredible 4% overhead because we volunteer all or part of our time, because we don't use professional fund raisers, and because we keep expenses to a minimum.

I ask you to match our dedication with a generous donation that will carry these crucial campaigns through 2007. To make this easier for you and more predictable for us, we are launching a monthly giving program.

Please join the program with a credit card on-line, or by phone at 800-632-8688 (we pay no processing fee). You may also send 12 post-dated checks to FARM, 10101 Ashburton Lane, Bethesda, MD 20817.

Here are other creative ways to help:

o Payroll deduction - Designate FARM as a beneficiary of your employer’s payroll deduction charitable campaign.
o Appreciated property - Give appreciated securities or other property directly to FARM to avoid capital gains tax and get tax deduction on appreciated value.
o Planned giving - Place FARM in your will so your support for animals lives on.

For details, e-mail or call me at 800-632-8688. Thank you for caring.
