Hundreds of Meatout Events Being Planned

Meatout events are being planned in hundreds of communities in all 50 states and two dozen other countries. They range from elaborate Lifestivals and Congressional Reception to public dinners, cooking demos, exhibits, and simple information tables.

This year's theme is the link between meat production and global warming. Visitors are asked to "kick the meat habit on March 20th (first day of spring) and to explore an environment-friendly diet of fruits, vegetables, and grains."

We provide guidance, listing of your event, media contacts, and an Event Pack containing a banner, posters, and handouts. You provide a few hours of your time and lots of heart.

We are still looking for Meatout Walk Coordinators to spread the vegetarian message and to raise funds for Meatout projects. Fundraising prizes include Meatout T-shirts and an AR2007 registration!

Hundreds of billboards, bus display cards, and letters to the editor will carry the Meatout message to millions. A number of governors and mayors will issue special proclamations.

Please take a look at the 2006 photo gallery, review the detailed Action Center page, then register your event, even if your plans are only tentative.

FARM Launches Global Warming Campaign

FARM has launched a campaign to publicize the link between meat and dairy production and global warming. The campaign was prompted by a recent United Nations report that animal agriculture accounts for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions - more than automobiles!

Here's what's in the works thus far:

  • We published letters to the editor in nearly 200 newspapers
  • We placed two full-page color ads in E-Magazine
  • We printed thousands of colorful posters and postcards
  • We are posting dozens of billboards and bus cards in major cities
  • We are making this the focus of both Meatout and Earth Day campaigns
  • We are planning a Congressional briefing on this issue
  • We are hiring a lobbyist to raise the awareness of environmental leaders

Please join our Global Warming Campaign by making a donation or arranging an event to alert your community to the dietary link.

Equal Justice Alliance Works to Defeat AETA

Equal Justice Alliance (EJA) is a coalition of animal protection and other social justice groups spearheaded by FARM to protect freedom of speech/assembly for activists by defeating the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA).

The Act brands animal activists as 'terrorists,' abridges our freedom of speech and assembly, and is exceptionally broad, vague, and contradictory. It cleared Congress in a controversial, underhanded maneuver, catching most Members unaware.

We are creating a supportive climate for animal activism in the federal legislative and legal communities through briefings, conferences, and personal visits.

Here's what's happening thus far:

  • We visited dozens of Congressional staffers
  • We are planning a Congressional briefing in March
  • We are hiring a Congressional lobbyist
  • We obtained a statement from the NYC Bar Association
  • We encourage attorneys to solicit their bar associations
  • We are doing several legal forums and seeking additional statements
  • We are researching the U.S. Justice Department's enforcement plans

Please visit the EJA website to learn more about AETA and how to support our campaign. If you're an attorney, please contact our Executive Director.
