Meatout Events Smash All Past Records

More than a thousand communities in all 50 states and 27 other countries welcomed spring this month with colorful educational events ranging from information tables, exhibits, and lectures to cooking demonstrations, receptions, and elaborate “lifestivals.”

This year’s theme was "Stop Global Warming." As usual, visitors were asked to “kick the meat habit on March 20th (first day of spring) and to explore a nonviolent, wholesome diet of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.”

Activists distributed 50,000 Meatout cards offering a free Veg Kit and the colorful weekly Meatout Mondays e-newsletter. Throughout the month, FARM mailed 2,000 Veg Kits to inquirers.

In the nation’s capital, 250 Congress staffers attended a vegan feast complete with speakers, videos, and veg literature. Lifestivals, featuring live bands, speakers, exhibits, video screenings, health screenings, food vendors, cooking demonstrations, vegan food samples, and games, attracted hundreds of visitors.

More than 60 colleges participated with exhibits, tables, and veg cafeteria lines. Nearly 150 animal shelters and health food stores and restaurants offered vegetarian literature to visitors. Hundreds of bus cards are carrying the Meatout message in major cities. Billboards are in the works.

Numerous events took place in Argentina, Canada, Croatia, Brazil, England, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Kenya, México, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, and Uganda. Special Meatout websites were launched in German and French. Other participating countries included Australia, Belgium, Chile, Ecuador, Israel, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Perú, Romania, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

This observance was co-sponsored by In Defense of Animals, SoyBoy, E/Environmental Magazine, and Vegetarian Times.

FARM Launches Global Warming Billboards

Clear Channel Outdoor, the nation's largest billboard company, has donated billboard space to FARM in Atlanta, Dallas, Milwaukee, Oakland, Philly, and San Antonio. But we need your help to cover $300 per billboard for printing and posting.

We plan to use this opportunity to publicize the impact of animal agriculture on the global warming crisis by pointing out that "Cows Cause More Than Cars."

These giant 22x11-foot billboards, confer a sense of power and mainstream acceptance. They are are seen by thousands for a month or more, and bring hundreds of inquiries.

To sponsor a billboard for $300 please e-mail Dawn or call 800 632-8688.
We will send you a photo and location of your billboard.

Last year, our members distributed 10,000 cards at Earth Day events across the U.S. This year's observance is co-sponsored by E/Environmental Magazine.

Please visit our Literature Request Form, to order a pack of cards, and the Caring Gifts page, for posters and T-shirts. Visit our Global Warming Action page to get involved.

FARM Publishes Hundreds of Letters to Editor

In the past three months, we published nearly 500 letters to the editor on six topics in more than 200 papers. The topics included new year's resolutions, cancer (general and breast), environment, global warming, lent, and Meatout.

Letters to the editor are the second most read section of the newspaper after the front page. They are a most effective vehicle for bringing our message to millions of middle Americans whom we don't reach in other ways. Our program is estimated to generate up to 100 million viewings per year.

Contact us to join our Letters network, or to obtain text of selected letters.
