Join the World Farm Animals Day Action

We ask that, on or about October 2, you join caring people throughout the U.S. and 25 other countries in running your World Farm Animals Day observance.

Observances range from simple information tables and leafleting to creative events like candlelight vigils, funeral marches, street video screenings, cage-ins, die-ins, banner drops and more. We provide guidance, display and handout materials, national media, and an online Events Directory.

World Farm Animals Day is the world's first and largest annual campaign dedicated to animals raised for food, who account for 98% of all animal suffering and slaughter. It's the one day when every one of us is honor-bound to do something to stop the tragedy of animal agriculture.

NEW MATERIALS! This year’s theme is "Make the Connection" and we’ve designed a brand new handout and poster based on Mobilization For Animals' photo display. These depict people enduring factory farming atrocities and urge viewers to empathize with the suffering of animals.

Sabina Fund Applications Due October 31st

We invite small groups promoting plant-based eating and respect for animals to submit proposals for a FARM Sabina Fund grant by October 31st. The Fund honors the memory of our President Alex Hershaft's mother, Sabina.

Since 1999, the Fund has awarded small grants to some 150 grassroots groups in 30 countries.

FARM Sponsors DC VegFest This Month

FARM is a three-star sponsor of the upcoming DC VegFest arranged by the Vegetarian Society of DC and Compassion Over Killing. Taking place on September 12th, DC VegFest is a free festival that celebrates the city's diverse palette for animal-friendly cuisine and the many benefits of a plant-based diet. Featuring speakers, cooking demos, free food samples, dozens of exhibitors, commercial vendors, and area food vendors, the DC VegFest has something for everyone to enjoy.

Veg School Lunch, Factory Farming in the News

A recent nationwide survey by the School Nutrition Association found that 64 percent of U.S. schools now regularly offer vegetarian lunches and 20 percent offer vegan lunches. That's up from 22.3 percent for vegetarian lunches in 2003.

The Association's National School Lunch Week on October 12-16 offers a great opportunity to tout vegan school lunch options at your school. Visit the school lunch website of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

The August 31 Time Magazine’s cover story exposed the tragedy of animal farming. It led with:

"Somewhere in Iowa, a pig is being raised in a pen, packed in so tightly with other swine that their curly tails have been chopped off so they won't bite one another. To prevent him from getting sick in such close quarters, he is dosed with drugs. The waste produced by the pig and his thousands of pen mates on the factory farm where they live goes into manure lagoons that blanket neighboring areas with air pollution and stomach-churning stench."
