world day for farmed animals

Fast Against Slaughter

Each year, an estimated 70 billion sentient land animals and over 1 trillion fish are caged, crowded, deprived, drugged, mutilated and macerated in factory farms across the world.

On their way to slaughter, cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys are denied food, rest, even water, for hours or days. They are scared. They are starving. And their suffering is silenced by an industry that doesn’t want you to know the truth. We refuse to be silent. As an act of solidarity with the farmed animals starving in trucks on their way to death, we join together in a one-day Fast Against Slaughter.

Why fast?

In the historical tradition of Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and others, show solidarity on October 2nd, as we amplify the voices of the trillions of farmed animals suffering around the world. We inspire others to learn the truth. And we mobilize a compassionate global community who will not wait for justice, but who will make it a reality. Join the movement and Fast Against Slaughter

Listen to Your Body

The Fast Against Slaughter is completely voluntary. If you feel unwell, weak, or uncomfortable at any point, consider ending your fast or having a small snack. If you have health concerns, consult your doctor before fasting.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout your fast. Staying hydrated is especially important when you are not eating, and beverages such as water, unsweetened green tea, or coffee may also help manage feelings of hunger. You've got this.

Break Your Fast Gently

Ease back into eating rather than consuming a large meal right away, which may cause discomfort. Remember, the purpose of the fast is to stand in solidarity with farmed animals and raise awareness—not to put your health at risk.
